On the State of Public Health: annual report of the Chief Medical Officer 2007

The Chief Medical Officer’s Annual Report 2007 draws attention to major health challenges requiring immediate action and details progress made in key areas identified in previous annual reports.

The report calls for a new focus on teenage health, and urges health services to take better account of the specific health needs of young people. It also draws attention to the nature of risks inherent in surgery and that more attention should be given to reducing errors in surgery. Additionally, it highlights the rising levels of oesophageal cancer, the importance of vaccination in improving public health and the issue of racism in medicine.

End of life care strategy - promoting high quality care for all adults at the end of life

This publication details the Department of Health’s end of life care strategy, which provides people approaching the end of life with more choice about where they would like to live and die. It encompasses all adults with advanced, progressive illness and care given in all settings.

Third Sector Investment Programme

The Investment Programme, which replaces the Section 64 General Scheme of Grants from 2009-10, has been informed and developed through a wide ranging consultation with third sector organisations.  The funding programmes will open for applications on Monday 21 July 2008. First stage applications must be submitted by Monday 8 September 2008.

Roll out and training events for NHS Supply2Health procurement portal [Letter]

This letter to primary care trust chief executives introduces NHS Supply2Health, the procurement portal for advertising services in health and social care. It requires chief executives to nominate two NHS Supply2Health leads from their organisations by Friday 1 August 2008, and gives details of training events to be run in September 2008.
